BAR Emerges as Prognostic Marker in Post-Cardiac Arrest ICU Patients
6 Jun 2025 • Blood urea nitrogen to serum albumin ratio (BAR) emerges as a strong predictor of 28-day mortality in cardiac arrest survivors admitted to the ICU.
Analyzing 793 patients from the MIMIC-IV database, mortality rates rose sharply across BAR tertiles: 37.5%, 53.4%, and 63.8%. Multivariable analysis revealed a non-linear relationship, with each 1-unit increase in BAR ≤17.98 linked to a 5.7% higher death risk.
BAR emerges as a simple, effective marker combining inflammation and nutrition for early risk stratification after return of spontaneous circulation.
