17 Jun 2025 • In a 6-year study of 4,706 people living with HIV in Andhra Pradesh, completing a single course of tuberculosis preventive treatment (TPT) alongside antiretroviral therapy (ART) halved TB incidence (0.55 vs 1.06/100 PY) and cut all-cause mortality sixfold (2.2 vs 13.5/100 PY).

Among those on effective ART, TPT completion reduced TB risk by 87% (aHR: 0.13) and mortality by 94% (aHR: 0.06), underscoring its long-term protective value in high-burden settings.
