Chronic Kidney Disease Severity Progressively Increases Risk of Inflammation-Related Diseases
16 May 2025 • Chronic inflammation-related diseases (ChrIRD) rise significantly with worsening chronic kidney disease (CKD), even in those without baseline cardiovascular disease.
In a 19-year study of 6,705 participants, ChrIRD incidence increased from 18 to 128.7 events per 1,000 person-years across CKD risk levels. Adjusted hazard ratios ranged from 1.23 (low-risk) to 3.87 (very high-risk).
A urine albumin-creatinine ratio >10 mg/g was the earliest marker of increased inflammatory risk, highlighting ChrIRD as a key consequence of CKD progression.
