Beyond Traditional Risks: New Predictors Identified in Early-Stage Colorectal Cancer
20 Jun 2025 • Over 13% of patients with early-stage colorectal cancer experienced recurrence, with 8.4% in stage I and 17% in stage II. In this decade-long analysis, 19.2% of recurrent cases did not present with established risk factors.
Independent predictors included venous invasion (p = 0.02), synchronous cancers (p = 0.017), microsatellite stability (p = 0.018), and perioperative blood transfusion (p = 0.01).
With a 5-year mortality of 61.5% among those with cancer recurrence, the findings highlight the urgent need to refine risk stratification to better guide adjuvant therapy.
