Female Sex Independently Predicts Early Graft Occlusion and Adverse Events After CABG

8 Jul 2025 • Women face a higher risk of early graft occlusion after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), with rates of 13.7% vs. 6.5% in men, according to a study of patients.

Female sex was linked to a 2.6-fold increased risk. Overall, graft failure occurred in 7.6%, and while 14.5-month mortality was low (3.1%), occluded grafts were associated with higher rehospitalization (28% vs. 4.1%) and reintervention rates (28% vs. 2.6%).

Findings highlight a need for sex-specific strategies to improve graft outcomes.
