Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease Shows Strongest Links to Hypertension, Diabetes, and Hyperlipidemia
16 May 2025 • A comparative analysis of NHANES data revealed that MAFLD demonstrated strong associations with metabolic disorders compared to MASLD, MetALD, and NAFLD.
Key Findings:
- For hypertension, odds were highest in MAFLD (3.46), followed by MASLD (2.89), NAFLD (1.98), and MetALD (1.80).
- Type 2 diabetes risk was also greatest with MAFLD (7.03), then MASLD (6.36), NAFLD (3.37), with similar trends noted for hyperlipidemia.
- Moderate-to-severe liver steatosis further amplified diabetes risk in MASLD (OR 3.92), MAFLD (3.81), and NAFLD (4.91).
The findings suggest MAFLD may serve as a superior marker for identifying metabolic complications.
