MASLD Scores Predict Preclinical Atherosclerosis in Type 1 Diabetes
20 Jun 2025 • Adults with longstanding type 1 diabetes (T1D) have a strong link between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) scores and early atherosclerosis.
Using Hepatic Steatosis Index (HSI) and FIB-4, 45.2% had steatosis and 8.4% had steatosis + fibrosis. Carotid plaque prevalence rose to 64.9% in the steatosis + fibrosis group, who had nearly double the odds of preclinical atherosclerosis (OR 1.97).
MASLD scores may help non-invasively identify T1D patients at elevated cardiovascular risk.
