13 Jun 2025 • A meta-analysis of over 7.4 million children found that early-life antibiotic exposure is linked to a 22% increased risk of developing atopic dermatitis (AD) (OR 1.22), with postnatal use posing a greater risk than prenatal.

The association varied by diagnostic criteria, race, antibiotic type, and usage frequency—but not geography—and was more influenced by the age of AD diagnosis than age at exposure.

The findings highlight the importance of cautious antibiotic use in early childhood.
