Neurodevelopmental Risks Rise in Children of Young Female Cancer Survivors
13 Jun 2025 • Children born to female cancer survivors under 40 faced a 10% higher risk of neurodevelopmental disorders (HR 1.10), recent evidence highlighted.
The risk was notably elevated for cerebral palsy (HR 1.38), developmental delay (HR 1.16), and epileptic and febrile seizures (HR 1.06).
The risk was highest when cancer was diagnosed during pregnancy (HR 1.26) but not significant if birth occurred 5 years post-diagnosis.
These findings underscore the need for preconception counseling and close developmental monitoring in this population.
