Parental Dyslipidemia Emerges as a Hidden Driver of Pediatric Asthma Burden
18 Jul 2025 • A study of 29,851 children with corticosteroid-treated asthma shows that metabolic dysfunction in kids and parents heightens the asthma burden.
Key Findings:
- Among them, 1,430 had severe asthma, 4,750 had poor control, and 2,353 had exacerbations.
- Elevated LDL in children raised severe asthma odds 2.2-fold, while high triglycerides and low HDL increased exacerbation and poor control odds ~1.5-fold.
- Maternal dyslipidemia and HbA1c raised uncontrolled asthma risk 1.2–1.4-fold; paternal HbA1c linked to exacerbations.
Findings highlight lipid screening for at-risk families.
