Half of Young Adults in Rural India Develop Presbyopia by Midlife, Study Finds
22 Apr 2025 • 15-year follow-up reveals a striking cumulative incidence of presbyopia at 50.9% among those aged 16 and older at baseline.
Key baseline risk factors independently linked to the development of presbyopia included being aged 30–39 years (OR 2.9), 40–49 years (OR 1.5), having no formal education (OR 2.5), only primary education (OR 2.1), and a history of hypertension (OR 1.3).
These findings highlight the urgent need for targeted presbyopia screening and early intervention strategies, particularly in underserved populations across Southern India.
