Routine Blood Test Predicts Early-Onset Pre-eclampsia with High Accuracy
11 Apr 2025 • A new study offers a low-cost tool for predicting early-onset pre-eclampsia (PE) using routine peripheral blood counts taken between 12 and 18 weeks of gestation.
Researchers identified four blood-based predictors: mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and platelet count-to-mean platelet volume ratio (PC/MPV).
A nomogram incorporating these markers demonstrated strong diagnostic power, with an AUC of 0.874, 95.1% sensitivity, and 62.2% specificity.
