Albuminuria Independently Predicts ACS Risk and Coronary Stenosis Severity in PCI Patients

2 Jul 2025 • New evidence reveals that elevated urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) may signal heightened risk for acute coronary syndrome (ACS), offering insight into the renal-cardiac axis.

Key Findings:

  • Microalbuminuria and macroalbuminuria were independently associated with increased odds of ACS (OR 1.63 and 2.07, respectively.
  • Patients with UACR ≥300 mg/g faced the most severe coronary stenosis (OR 1.74), even after adjustment for CADRADS score.
  • These findings suggest that albuminuria may reflect underlying processes contributing to plaque rupture or erosion.

Routine UACR screening in patients with chronic coronary syndrome could serve as a critical step toward early ACS risk identification and prevention.
