Prediabetes Exacerbates Osteosarcopenia and Osteoarthritis Risk
6 Jun 2025 • While analysing 8,656 adults, a strong link was found between osteosarcopenia and osteoarthritis (OA) in those with prediabetes, which affected nearly 30% of participants.
Key Findings:
- Prediabetic individuals had significantly higher rates of osteopenia, sarcopenia, and OA than normoglycemic peers.
- Adjusted analyses showed prediabetes independently raised the odds of osteopenia (OR 1.33) and sarcopenia (OR 1.42).
Those with osteosarcopenia faced a markedly increased OA risk, highlighting the combined impact of muscle and bone loss on joint degeneration and the need for early screening.
