Automated DSLT Matches Standard SLT in Efficacy and Safety for Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension
12 May 2025 • Researchers compared direct selective laser trabeculoplasty (DSLT), a fully automated, image-guided, non-contact treatment, with standard SLT in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
At 6 months, DSLT reduced intraocular pressure (IOP) by 5.5 mmHg (–20.6%) versus 6.2 mmHg (–23.6%) with SLT. However, by 12 months, both treatments achieved comparable IOP reductions.
Safety profiles were similar, with only mild, self-limited ocular events reported. DSLT offers a viable, patient-friendly alternative when SLT access is limited, signaling a potential shift toward contactless, automated glaucoma care.
