Triglycerides Pose Hidden Cardiovascular Threat Despite Optimal LDL Control

17 Jun 2025 • Even with optimal LDL-C control, elevated triglycerides (TGs) independently drive residual cardiovascular risk, according to a 9-year study of 9,436 cardiovascular disease (CVD) patients.

Each 1-unit increase in log-TG was linked to higher risks of recurrent CV events (HR: 1.17), myocardial infarction (HR: 1.34), CV mortality (HR: 1.23), and all-cause mortality (HR: 1.12), with no significant link to stroke (HR: 1.10).

These risks were unaffected by lipid target achievement or therapy intensity, highlighting TGs as a key, modifiable target in secondary prevention.
