Cutaneous Manifestations in IBD: Distinct Patterns in Crohn’s vs UC
30 May 2025 • Over 38% of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) experience inflammatory skin conditions, according to a recent study.
Inflammatory skin condition rates climbed to 52.5% among those with Crohn’s disease (CD), compared to 32.9% in ulcerative colitis (UC).
Aphthous stomatitis and atopic dermatitis were the most common manifestations, while perianal fissures predominated in CD.
Notably, psoriasis and aphthous stomatitis appeared more often in women, who—along with married individuals—faced greater skin-related risks.
These findings support regular dermatologic screening in IBD, particularly for women and Crohn’s patients.
