18 Mar 2025 • A study from a major Indian referral center found that a portable, India-made ophthalmic ultrasound device is a cost-effective alternative to multinational devices.

Comparing axial and transverse scans, the India-made device showed an accuracy of 88.9%, slightly higher than the multinational device's 85.5%. Both devices had strong inter-observer agreement (91.52%) and high intra-observer consistency (95% for grader 1, 93.3% for grader 2).

The device's portability and affordability make it promising for home-based eye care.
