Heavy Menstrual Bleeding Linked to Increased Depressive Symptoms in Women
13 Jun 2025 • A cross-sectional study of 2,564 women in Bangladesh and India found that 45% experience heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), which is linked to a 15% higher risk of depression.
Women with HMB scored significantly higher on the CESD-10 depression scale, and overall, 30% screened positive for depression.
City-level differences suggest local factors may influence this link, highlighting the need to integrate menstrual and mental health care in low- and middle-income settings.
