Women with MASLD Face Greater Cardiovascular Risks Than Men
27 Jun 2025 • Researchers have uncovered a significant sex difference in cardiovascular risk associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
MASLD was linked to a 59% increased risk of fatal or non-fatal cardiovascular disease (CVD) events in women (HR 1.59), compared to a 37% increased risk in men (HR 1.37), with the sex disparity reaching statistical significance.
The risk escalated further with disease severity, particularly in women (HR 2.40).
These findings underscore the urgent need for sex-specific cardiovascular screening and prevention strategies in patients with MASLD.
