Oral Human Papillomavirus Risk Jumps in Women with Cervical HPV
27 Jun 2025 • According to a latest meta-analysis, cervical human papillomavirus (HPV) infection elevates the risk of oral HPV in women.
The pooled analysis of 41 studies showed women with cervical HPV had more than twice the odds of oral HPV infection compared to HPV-negative women (OR 2.22). Oral HPV prevalence was 13% in cervical HPV-positive women compared to 4% in HPV-negative counterparts, rising to 17% among those with positive cytology.
These findings suggest cervical HPV-positive women—especially those with positive cytologic may benefit from targeted screening strategies.
