Disparities in Mammography Uptake Among Indian Women Aged 45 and Above: Urgent Need for Targeted Interventions

4 Apr 2025 • A nationwide study using data from 35,083 Indian women aged 45 and above reveals extremely low mammography rates, with just 1.3% undergoing screening in the past two years—1.7% among women aged 45–59 and only 0.9% among those 60 and older.

Kerala reported the highest screening rates, while Nagaland had the lowest.

Key factors linked to higher mammography uptake included urban residence, higher education, existing comorbidities (diabetes, neurological illness, bone/joint disease), and a personal or family history of cancer.
