Intensive Blood Pressure Control Cuts Cardiovascular Deaths in Seniors Without Added Risk
15 Aug 2025 • In adults ≥75 years with hypertension, targeting SBP <130 mmHg provided substantial benefits without raising serious adverse events versus ≥130 mmHg.
Intensive control reduced composite cardiovascular events by 39% (RR = 0.61), all-cause mortality by 28% (RR = 0.72), and cardiovascular mortality by 45% (RR = 0.55), with similar stroke rates and safety outcomes.
Results held in analyses, including those ≥70 years, supporting SBP <130 mmHg as a safe, effective target for well-selected older adults.
