Insomnia Increases Risk of Psoriasis and Atopic Dermatitis, Longer Sleep Protective

1 Oct 2025 • A genetic study revealed causal links between sleep traits and inflammatory skin diseases.

Key Findings:

  • Frequent insomnia was associated with a significantly higher risk of psoriasis (OR ~1.20) and atopic dermatitis (OR ~1.15), while longer sleep duration had protective effects against acne (OR ~0.90) and urticaria (OR ~0.88).
  • Other traits, such as daytime sleepiness, napping, snoring, and chronotype, showed no strong associations.
  • Sensitivity analyses confirmed these findings.

The results highlight that managing insomnia and optimizing sleep duration may help lower the burden and severity of common inflammatory skin disorders.
