Bedtime vs. Morning Antihypertensive Dosing: No Impact on Cardiovascular Risk
13 May 2025 • A large BedMed trial evaluated whether taking antihypertensive medication at bedtime instead of in the morning could reduce cardiovascular events and death.
Among 3,357 hypertensive adults followed for 4.6 years, the incidence of major outcomes—stroke, acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, and all-cause mortality—were similar in both groups (2.4 vs. 2.3 per 100 patient years). Hospitalization rate was comparable with no increased risk of falls, fractures, glaucoma, or cognitive decline.
The findings confirm that the timing of once-daily antihypertensive medication does not influence cardiovascular risk—suggesting patient convenience and preference should guide dosing schedules.
