Heavy Drinking Linked to Higher Hypertension Risk
11 Aug 2025 • A large analysis of over 30,000 participants, representing 228 million adults, reveals a clear link between daily alcohol consumption and hypertension risk.
Researchers found no safe threshold—risk rose steadily with intake, and those consuming more than 40 g/day (about three or more standard drinks) had an 87% higher odds of hypertension compared to abstainers (OR = 1.873).
These findings reinforce the cardiovascular dangers of heavy drinking and highlight the need for routine alcohol intake assessment in hypertension prevention and management strategies.
